Di Tao and Bob Dodd founded Objects & Ideas as a design practice in 2015 in order to pursue their vision of a transformative design process, one that could turn their unique ideas and concepts for furniture and homeware into objects of desire. Working out of Toronto, they set about exploring how to take their clean, minimalist approach to design, apply it using materials and process available locally to them in Canada, and reinvent everyday products. They wanted to create beautiful objects that people would take pride in owning and caring for, objects that add to the quality of life.
Graduating with a masters degree in industrial design from the University of Art and Design Helsinki, Finland, Taodi spent the first decade of his creative career in Asia, Europe and North America, giving him a diverse and unique source of inspiration. His works represent a unique synthesis of simplicity, imagination, and refinement. Many of these have helped several prestigious brands win over 20 international design awards, including Red Dot Award - Best of the Best, IDEA Silver Award, Good Design Award USA, and the IF Product Design Award. Taodi's works have been exhibited at Milan Furniture Week, 100% Design Tokyo, and form part of the permanent collections of the Red Dot museum Germany and the Taiwan International Design Museum. One of his favorite designs is the Toronto Cordless kettle which, in his own words shows, "a central tenet of design: turning ordinary commodities into objects of desire".
